๐จโ๐ป About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Product Quality Engineer to own the quality of a product line from concept to customer. You will work with our product and engineering teams in the UK and China, and with our manufacturing partners, to make sure every product launches right and stays right. A key focus is quality during new product development (NPD): running a gate review at each development stage to make sure major issues are solved and aligned, or that mitigation plans are in place for any open issues, before the product moves forward.
Please note that this role will be situated at our office in Dongguan, China, working on-site from Monday-Friday. The normal working hours will be 9am - 6:30pm CST.
๐ About Youโฏ
Outgoing and proactive โ you go to the production line and talk to people rather than wait for problems to come to you.
Driven โ you take ownership and push issues through to closure, even under deadline pressure.
Persuasive with facts โ you convince others with data and evidence, and hold a firm line while keeping good relationships.
A clear communicator โ you explain quality risks simply to the UK team, engineers, suppliers and managers, in Mandarin and English.
๐Key Responsibilities:
Product validation (NPD)
Define critical-to-quality characteristics, quality requirements and inspection standards for new products.
Validate the the product validation plan with the UK team and our lab team (functional, reliability, drop and environmental tests) and make sure each build is tested against it.
Review validation results, drive failures to root cause and verify fixes before the next build.
Give design-for-manufacturing and DFMEA input to the design team.
Mass production readiness
Review tooling and first samples, and drive issues to closure with suppliers.
Approve supplier quality control plans based on PFMEA; sign off limit and golden samples.
Present validation and readiness evidence at launch gate reviews.
Problem solving for production and after-sales
Monitor production and test data; lead root cause analysis (8D, 5Why) and corrective actions with suppliers.
Analyse returns and customer feedback, and feed the learnings back into design and standards.
โ๏ธHow will success be measured?
Successful leadership of the MDA PQE team with clear ownership and development of members
Significant reduction in design-stage and early production defects (target: 90%+ of mass-production and field failure modes already identified in DFMEA or NPD testing)
100% of new projects released to mass production with approved test plans and lab validation reports
Reduction in customer complaint rate related to the product quality issues.
Positive feedback from cross-functional teams (NPD, Engineering, Production, CX)
Zero compliance-related shipment holds or recalls; Critical/Major/Minor defect classification standard released and adopted by all active suppliers
๐คSkills requirements:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, materials, industrial engineering or a related field.
5+ years in product or supplier quality engineering for consumer electronics or accessories, including full new-product launches.
Hands-on experience with plastic injection, overmolding (e.g. TPU), assembly and tooling/mold qualification.
Strong knowledge of APQP, DFMEA/PFMEA, control plans, MSA, SPC and 8D/CAPA.
Able to read GD&T drawings and analyse data with Minitab or Excel.
Proven NPD product validation experience: planning validation and reliability tests (functional, drop, environmental), reviewing results and driving design fixes. Working knowledge of ISO 9001.
Fluent Mandarin and good business English.
Willing to travel regularly to supplier sites
